Family Mediation

Mediation is a dynamic, structured, interactive process where a neutral third party assists disputing parties in resolving conflict through the use of specialized communication and negotiation techniques. All participants in mediation are encouraged to actively participate in the process. Mediation is a “party-centered” process in that it is focused primarily upon the needs, rights, and interests of the 3rd party.

The mediator uses a wide variety of techniques to guide the process in a constructive direction and to help the parties find their optimal solution. A mediator is facilitative in that she/he manages the interaction between parties and facilitates open communication. Mediation is also evaluative in that the mediator analyzes issues and relevant norms (“reality-testing”), while refraining from providing prescriptive advice to the parties (e.g., “You should do….”).

We specialize in family mediation for adoptions, guardianships, parenting plans, separations and divorces. We also provide mediation and facilitate discussions with large groups of professionals in businesses. Whether it is a partnership in business, or in one’s family life. We enjoy being a part of the peace process.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can you mediate?

Adoption – Divorce – Disagreements – Child Custody – Child Support – Domestic Partnerships – Parenting Plans – Parental Visitation – Spousal Support – Property Division – Business Partnerships – Work Place Disputes. We are focused on your business and family – now and in the future!

What's the difference between talking to you and my best friend?

The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, therapy is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, if you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.
